If you have a quality watch, the only problem that might come up during the years is changing the battery. This is the case with many watches, but not with Citizen Eco-Drive timepieces. Luckily, they are solar-powered, eye-catching and long-lasting watches. They are one of the best-selling watches on Amazon and have gathered loads of positive reviews so far. In this review, we’re going to test the Citizen BM8180-03E, present its strengths and weaknesses, and decide whether it is good value for money.
First of all, this watch is really easy to read. It features a black background and white numerals and markings. Additionally, this watch features tick marks for seconds and a day and date window at 3 o’clock position. The luminous hands and hour markers make this timepiece even easier to read, while the red second hand just fits in the picture perfectly. There’s not a single piece we would change on this watch’s dial, so overall, we’re really satisfied with how it looks.
The Quartz Movement
This watch features a movement that is well-known among people who are familiar with Citizen. The Japanese Quartz movement is quality, keeps time accurately and is very consistent. Furthermore, the BM8180-03E is part of the Eco-Drive collection, meaning it is charged by sunlight. You must be happy not having to replace the battery every 2 years. Solar-powered watches like this resolve the ever-lasting battery hassles.
If there’s one thing this watch can be criticized for, it can only be its band. This timepiece features a canvas band, which has a few disadvantages: firstly, the band is way too stiff, and it also retains water. Furthermore, the rivets are uncomfortable and ugly. In all honesty, if you’re considering buying this watch, you’ll have to replace the current band with something more comfortable and stylish strap. Our recommendation is a leather band, but it’s all up to you, dear reader.
There are several features worth mentioning, starting with the continuously sweeping second hand, which is a lovely little extra. Furthermore, this watch is water resistant to 100 meters, meaning it is suitable for snorkeling or swimming. Lastly, this watch is one of the few that has great luminosity, meaning if you wake up at 3 AM, it won’t burn your eyes out, but it’ll be incredibly easy-to-read.
As of June 22, 2017, the Citizen BM8180-03E costs $87, and this timepiece offers a really good value for money. It is literally miles ahead of its competitors, and don’t forget that it is a budget watch. Overall, a quality Citizen watch for a super-affordable price.
- Light weight, doesn’t look bulky at all.
- Reliable and accurate Japanese Quartz movement.
- You won’t need to worry about battery changes anymore hence it is a solar-powered watch.
- It is incredibly easy to set the time and date.
- A watch that is beyond expectations compared to its price.
- You’ll probably need to spend another $15-$20 on a new strap.
